About

Maritza Owens founded Harvest Home Farmers Market in 1993 as a Black-led nonprofit organization. The network now runs multiple seasonal markets across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn from June through November. In addition, Harvest Home focuses on food security and health education in neighborhoods that have historically lacked reliable access to fresh produce. Because the markets operate across three boroughs, the organization reaches a wide range of underserved New York communities each season. As a result, thousands of New Yorkers gain seasonal access to fresh, affordable produce close to home. Harvest Home Farmers Market has grown into one of the city’s longest-running Black-led food access organizations.
