About
Detroit People’s Food Co-op is a Black-led, community-owned grocery cooperative located in the North End neighborhood of Detroit. Members and neighbors collectively own the store, which focuses on improving healthy food access for residents. In addition, the co-op runs food education programs designed to help shoppers make informed choices about nutrition. Because the store is community-owned, decisions about products and programming are shaped directly by the people it serves. As a result, the co-op functions as both a grocery store and a neighborhood institution built around food justice. Shoppers in the North End can rely on the co-op for fresh groceries while also participating in a model of shared ownership rooted in the Detroit community.
